Gretsch Chet Atkins Super Axe 7680

Gretsch Chet Atkins Super Axe 7680

The last build that Chet Atkins contributed to Gretsch (alongside Duke Kramer), this oddball axe is far from typical in any previous Gretsch design. Sustain was the name of the game, sporting a large yet slender solid mahogany body (with a distinct weirdo aesthetic), humbucking pickups and the super part of the axe - an on-board compressor and phaser powered by a 9v battery, accessible via the rather Ricky inspired control panel. Made for only one year from 1977-78, this is a whacky and rare gem.

“In all modesty, I think my new Super Axe is the ultimate guitar for the rock guitarist,” - Chet Atkins

Includes original hard shell case. One screw missing from the battery compartment cover.
