Mackie’s Onyx 1620 pairs a redesigned 16:2 analogue mixer with the option of a built-in FireWire audio interface, creating a flexible front end for studio or live recording. At its core are Mackie’s Onyx mic preamps, offering low noise, wide headroom, and a slightly smoother, more refined character than earlier VLZ designs, alongside a newly voiced EQ intended to deliver a sweeter, more musical response inspired by classic British consoles.
With the optional FireWire card installed, the mixer sends up to 16 direct channel outputs plus the main stereo mix straight to a computer at high resolution over a single cable, while still functioning as a full analogue console for monitoring, routing, and talkback.
